What H3.1 and Smart Mesh actually are

Tripo unveiled both models around GDC 2026 as a deliberate pair, not a generational replacement - each targets a different point in the production pipeline. H3.1 (also called the HD Model) is Tripo's flagship high-fidelity generator: improvements in input alignment, geometry precision, texture quality, and generation efficiency over prior versions, aimed at detail-intensive work across characters and hard-surface objects. It produces dense geometry - Tripo's high-detail line reaches up to roughly 500K polygons - and is the model most people mean when they talk about "Tripo quality."

Smart Mesh P1.0 takes the opposite bet. Rather than generating a dense mesh and retopologizing afterward, it's built as a genuinely different architecture - a probabilistic approach that resolves an object's overall structure directly, producing organized, low-poly topology with sensible edge flow from the first pass. Tripo frames it plainly: Smart Mesh is optimized for ultra-fast, low-poly generation for prototyping and speed-sensitive workflows, while H3.1 is designed for scenarios that require stronger detail.
